Applicants for Grades K and 1 are given the Brigance Screening to determine readiness for kindergarten or first grade. These screenings are scheduled in February and are given to students whose applications are complete and on file.
Once all of the required documentation has been submitted, the Admissions Team will review the application based on St. Dominic admissions criteria. Specifically, we look for students who are successful in their current academic environments; who conduct themselves in a manner fitting with the St. Dominic behavioral standards; and whose parents/guardians are invested in the education process. Applicants meeting these criteria will be invited to continue in the application process with the following steps.
Students applying for Grades 2 to 8 usually spend a day shadowing in the classroom of their peers. This enables the incoming students to get a feel for life at St. Dominic, and allows the teachers to get a sense of the new student’s personality and learning style. Visiting students and their families will also meet with the principal to discuss the school and answer any questions the applicant may have.
After the student has completed the above steps, the application will be evaluated and an enrollment decision will be made. As a Catholic school, our priority is to first select qualified candidates of Catholic faith. It is possible that a student may be put on a wait list for classes that are at or near capacity, and parish families have first priority in cases where class space is limited. In any event, families can expect to hear back from St. Dominic within two weeks of completing the review process.
If your child is accepted, you will receive a packet of registration materials that must be completed and submitted to the school office, along with a $120 registration fee, to secure your space.
In the summer, you will receive lots of information about the upcoming school year and invitations to join in parish and school events.
No student will be refused admission becasue of race, color, sex, or national origin. In accordance with the Diocesan Guidelines for Admission to Schools in the Diocese of Cleveland, any student, whether parishoner, non-parishoner, or non-Catholic seeking admission to St. Dominic School for reasons related to avoiding the racial composition or desegregation of the previously attended school will not be accepted.
Families and students visit, schedule screening and/or testing and complete all necessary paperwork for admission file. School tours are scheduled on an individual basis by calling the school office at 216.561.4400 or emailing the principal, Mrs. Maureen Covington at mcovington@stdominicschool.net
